Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vit C): What It Is and Why We Use It?
What is Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate?
Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (ATIP or branded VC-IP) is the tetraester of Ascorbic Acid and isopalmitic acid. It is a clinically proven, stable, oil-solublevitamin C derivative. It offers superior percutaneous absorption and effectively converts to free Vitamin C in the skin. This multi-functional ingredient inhibits tyrosinase and melanogenesis activity to brighten, protects from UV-induced damage, provides potent antioxidant functionality, and supports collagen synthesis.
Enter ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate (ATIP), a stable yet highly effective derivative of ascorbic acid. Unlike other derivatives, ATIP is oil-soluble. The skin’s outermost barrier is oil-based, so other oil-based ingredients are generally able to penetrate much better than water-soluble ones. That’s definitely the case with ATIP, which has been observed to penetrate both the epidermis and the dermis below it.
Functions and benefits:
Lightening: lightens skin tone, fades and removes stains
Anti-Aging: improves collagen synthesis and cell renewal and reduces wrinkles
Antioxidant: intercepts free radicals and also protects cells from UV light
Anti-inflammatory: treats and prevents acne
Applications:
Used in whitening/anti-pigmentation stain products, anti-aging products, products for protection against sunburn and anti-inflammatory/soothing products. Suitable for oil formulations, essences, emulsions, cream and make-up formulas, etc.
